"Proletariat" and "bourgeois" are the most frustrating parts of modern Marxism; the terms are unnecessarily jargon-y on their own, and reflect class structures that haven't existed for 100 years.

The thing is - class dynamics are SUPER important, but they're not a broad kind of culture war, where we should all be scrupulously avoiding bourgeois values. I mean, apart from trying not to act like 1830s factory owners.

I can't believe I'm typing this, but a big piece that is missing from the "charcuterie discourse" is that even IF it was a really expensive meal, having it for lunch is not "bougie" Class consciousness doesn't mean "never buy pricey nice things ever"
