It really did feel like more of a giant mind worm from outer space than a coherent, self-consistent stance.

I've seen a few ppl I previously thought were friends radicalised very, very fast online. They shift from "a few concerns" to "brain-worms contradictory positions" in a blink. I honestly think some people just love any excuse to punch down whilst still maintaining victim status.

The issue I guess is that their views don't come from a particularly rational place. The problem all women face is patriarchy. But dealing with that is hard and uncomfortable so it's easier to pretend your problems can be solved by hurting the trans community instead. Idk.

Yeah, this fit my experience to a tee - ultimately, she blamed her ideas on having had a bad experience with the one cis man in the house not in her family (but refused to actually renounce them, at which point I kind of threw up my hands and gave up).

A LOT of the UK-based transphobes with large platforms in the national media appear to have problems with crappy husbands. I think many of them are angry that despite their privilege, men still treat them badly. I'm not sure how they make the leap that trans ppl are to blame 🤷‍♀️

They're the "men" who are easiest to attack, the ones it's easiest by far to summon up rage and disgust against, the ones who mysteriously seem to be unprotected by that ubiquitous male privilege

The ridiculous thing is that divorcing someone that you despise would bring you some actual joy (I speak from experience). I don't get why you'd want to stay angry and bitter ON PURPOSE. They'll never get what they actually crave by bashing the trans community. It's not possible.

I mean, I do get it. By doing what they do, they uphold patriarchy and white supremacy. But it still involves a lot of brain worms, contradictory positions, rage and ultimately, harm to themselves. It must be exhausting to willingly uphold the shit status quo on purpose.

It is often deeply tied to their toxic love/hate relationship with their identity as mothers It is not at all a coincidence that the epicenter of this community is Mumsnet

Yes, definitely. It's also not accidental that cis mothers like me (I had 2 c-sections and had the second one by choice) aren't made to feel very welcome on that website. I also left my kids' Dad when our relationship soured. I'm a 'traitor' according to them bc I refused misery.

You know I think they themselves are at least to an extent lying about seeing trans women as men I think they actually hate childfree women, with this deep simmering sublimated rage that they know they can't openly give voice to without coming off as the bad guy

And so trans women are this very convenient stand-in for "women who will never be mothers", a subset of that group they know they can freely attack without being called out for antifeminism or turning against other women "THEY AREN'T EVEN REALLY WOMEN"

YES! I had my 1st at 35 so felt very much like I'd 'missed' something with the whole Mumsnet thing. I made a choice to have kids, and if it hadn't worked out, that'd have been fine. If I'd never got stable, I'd have never had them tbh. Its clear other ppl don't feel the same way.

Yeah, in this case she had four kids at basically the earliest possible adult age and it sounded like it wasn't really a reasoned decision. Might explain the focus on fertility of trans kids - I didn't understand how it paired with the "predators in changerooms" concern.

Oh yikes. I don't get the changing room thing at all on a practical level bc all the unisex changerooms I've used are designed that way to accommodate middle class families. Like Mumsnet users. Who probably all use them without batting an eye but then scream about it online.
