"Undertale has a strong moral stance that it's rooted in that AAA games can't match, it says you must not kill ANYBODY" How is that a stronger moral stance A naive view of absolute pacifism, in other contexts, IS what people condemn as "both-sides-ism"

"Asgore is a murderer, but the important thing is he's sad and he's sorry" That's not a strong moral stance, that's bullshit I'd argue it's a misreading of Undertale but whether or not it's what Toby Fox meant, it's bad

"Alphys experimented on ripping out people's souls and extracting energy from them, including the six children Asgore murdered She's basically Dr Mengele But also she's queer! She's awkies and shy! She watches anime erg Undyne!"

This isn't genuine wrestling with mercy and forgiveness this is just you being able to dodge that question because your game is an uwu cartoon Which is fine! Go ahead and make games like that! That's fine! Just don't fucking lecture me

Undertale IS MORALLY GRAY The question of "Should I kill Asgore in self defense or not, does it matter he's committed murder in the past or not" IS NOT A CLEARLY ANSWERABLE QUESTION It's NOT given a clear answer in-universe

If Toby Fox wanted to actually make the incredibly stupid point people think he was trying to make - "Killing is never the answer, there is always another way" - he wouldn't have programmed the game the way he did

The author of this piece says the Neutral ending is a bad ending and you're never supposed to get it, that ever killing anyone at all is a bad ending and a fail YOU CANNOT GET TO THE GOLDEN ENDING ON THE FIRST PLAYTHROUGH YOU *MUST* GET THE NEUTRAL ENDING AT LEAST ONCE FIRST

Technically you can do it without killing anyone. When you beat Asgore, even the first time, you can choose to spare him. Flowey just executes him anyway when you do.

But the game itself doesn't actually demonize you for killing anyone. It does lock you out of the true ending if you do because it requires people to be alive, but unless you're deliberately murdering everything you can or kill Papyrus despite it being impossible for him to kill

you, Sans will basically just say, "Hey, you were scared and people were attacking you. Can't blame you for defending yourself. Maybe try and spare more people next time, okay?" And that's it.

Sans gets very very angry with you for killing Papyrus, but even that doesn't actually move him to attack you, only the Genocide Route does
