Because of the fact that Iron Man was always a second-stringer before the MCU, I don't think people fully appreciate that the Robert Downey Jr version of Tony Stark is something they basically made uphttps://twitter.com/mightygodking/status/1290339919731335176 …

And those movies are so successful and defining, and the Garfield TASM movies such a failure, that people basically thought he proved "Peter Snarker" only worked in comics and couldn't translate to the screen
-
And yet the MCU Iron Man movies just ARE THAT CHARACTER transplanted to a different setting in really obvious ways (to me, anyway) Like even their version of Pepper Potts is old school Peter/MJ marriage stuff And those movies conquered the world

I dunno, the specific can't-catch-a-break vibe is more Peter Parker than Clark Kent. But there's definitely some Superman in Raimi's version.

One interesting change Raimi made is that because his web-shooters are 'natural', he doesn't need to also be an inexplicable tech wiz that happened to get superpowers, so they took that aspect of Iron Man out of his character (and Iron Man would make them for him in the MCU)

IM made him a very sweet suit, but MCU Peter had been making the web fluid and shooters since before he was ever recruited, and that's why he could fall back on them when Tony took the nice suit away.
