Out of all the Orwell I've read, 1984 is the least enlightening in re: authoritarianism (I've read excerpts from Aspidastra, that's enough). Homage to Catalonia, Road to Wigan Pier, & Down & Out are far superior works. HtC really captures the dread & horror of betrayal...
