But when they say things that are clearly completely bonkers, like our president does, how long do we keep giving him the benefit of the doubt? He lies about everything and uses his lies to make us doubt what we perceive is reality, in order to manipulate us. That’s bad, right?

There's something really frustrating that Orwell is kind of treated like he's the only thinker in the entire discipline, so that we're stuck with all his idiosyncrasies and mistakes, rather than having him as one voice among many in a lively conversation.

He likes simple, direct, blunt language and he gets really annoyed by excess verbiage and complex jargon Therefore he equates the former with actual honesty and an earnest desire to communicate, and the latter with intent to obfuscate and deceive
