But when they say things that are clearly completely bonkers, like our president does, how long do we keep giving him the benefit of the doubt? He lies about everything and uses his lies to make us doubt what we perceive is reality, in order to manipulate us. That’s bad, right?

It does not constantly expose you to new terms for the same concepts and ask you to think deeply about why you say things the way you do It does not look for groups who have been unheard and ask them to tell new stories It does the opposite of all those things

Yeah - it's strange, too, because so much of Newspeak was about making language simpler and less sophisticated, specifically to make unapproved ideas impossible to communicate.

My least favorite of Orwell's famous writings isn't even any part of Animal Farm or 1984, it's "Politics and the English Language" I think his argument there, which he felt very strongly about, is just bad

Conservatism is a system of maintaining power and a dominant narrative which you cannot question. Conservatives using Orwell to defend their views is simply a lack of perception and self-awareness.
