The sheer amount of charity this reviewer shows John Boyne by presuming this stuff is an artistic decision to "destabilize" his setting Enough charity to end world hunger tbhhttps://twitter.com/reality_ensues/status/1290111914069000193 …

The Irish Times review of the book is under the impression it is deliberate. Given the controversies about his previous book, My Brother's Name is Jessica, it's hard to tell his intention. pic.twitter.com/TOwOzFb9rm

I was actually kinda inclined to read it charitably too, cause it's such a ludicrous mistake, but nope, Boyne's recent tweets indicate that he genuinely thought that octorock eyes make good dye from his 5 seconds of research.

It's sad because as an Easter egg / homage, it would be neat. Not from this dude, but from someone else.

Ironically, he has criticised the role of video games recently. So maybe he's not a Zelda fan. pic.twitter.com/VuPlaAyZ4J

The really big irony here is there's only two kinds of people who would do this - someone was into video games a little too much, and someone who knew absolutely nothing at all about video games

Like there's no other way you wouldn't be able to tell just from the *format* that this is a video game "crafting formula" and not an actual medieval recipe

He has confirmed it was a genuine error, so the Irish Times review was definitely too generous in its assumptions!pic.twitter.com/CHP9vkXpdH
