I genuinely think it's time to cancel Orwell Not because he was personally problematic or had problematic politics (though there's an argument for both) But because his Internet fanbase are the most insufferable human beings known to modern science

You're missing the point about Orwell's 2+2 = freedom line. There are two big concepts here: freedom and an objective reality. The 2nd is denied by postmodernists. The 1st is denied by collectivists. In one short line Orwell laid out the recipe for totalitarianism.

Well this rant went in some weird directions. Anyway, I'm pretty sure George Orwell would've found a lot of his online fans obnoxious too, what with the whole "he was a socialist and took up arms against right-wing nationalists" thing and all.

Sometimes it applies though doesn’t it. Like when the fundamentals of reproduction are challenged - I mean WTF! Women can be male!? Now that really is a great example of where he was right. Don’t you agree?

I’m sitting here thinking how fortunate I am to be blissfully ignorant of the subtleties in this thread. Truly a tempest in a teapot.

This thread reminds me that those "Be yourself" public service announcements that used to run on TV should have always had a caveat that the advice didn't apply to shitheads.
