Reading through the proposal - I suspect that in practice it will include a great deal of History of Mathematics (which is fantastic) and simply use socially relevant contexts while teaching the basics. Those approaches are tried and true ways of keeping students motivated.

I'm unsure if you're just moving the goal post or if you're trying to make a larger point. Different math systems are created for different uses. Arguably, we have trig due to geocentric theory. With the computing power we have now - EVERYTHING is just turned into linear algebra.

It makes sense that mathematical systems will reflect the cultures from which they developed because those cultures will have different goals. I'm unsure what you mean by "sophisticated" because if we just wanted to teach practical skills - grade schoolers could just all learn R.

If you are concerned that "sophisticated" mathematical tools will be relegated to history - you shouldn't be ragging on the very people who want to preserve & continue to teach & develop historical/traditional math systems - quite the opposite. Start bashing computers.

If you really honestly truly think that any kids - especially kids from those fancy liberal critical theory ivory tower prep schools - are going to be unable to add single-digit numbers because of teachers asking them to think critically about math, you have problems

Like what gets me is the sheer condescension these arguments show about what math education is even for Both that 1) you need to drill students on arithmetic hard or they just won't be able to do it, and 2) that this is a valuable skill for them to have
