I think the reason I lost interest in chess was because after playing it a million times somebody pointed out that the point isn't to ASSASSINATE the enemy king, you have to entrap him, and I was like this game sucks I just want to shoot him with a cannon

The actual reason I was kicked out of chess in fourth grade however is because this kid kept negging me during my games for being a bad player so I called him a jerkoff

See different games have different "culture" and in some ways the stuffy rule that you're not allowed to talk at all while playing chess (or, if it's a casual game, you can't talk about the game itself) is a good thing

It's interesting how different standards evolve Like the fighting game community just says absolutely anything goes, including and especially cutting criticisms of other people's skill

But my understanding/experience is that when playing poker, say, talking about and openly reacting to the game during the game is a part of the whole experience and part of the psychological strategy of it all

But *directly critiquing another player's play* is considered crossing a big line You keep your strategy thoughts to yourself There was a WSOP winner who did not do this and got a really big backlash because of it

when playing pokemon go it's proper etiquette to call the rare pokemon that just escaped you an asshole and a pokeball waster
