If you find yourself presenting a simplistic picture of science because you're afraid the "other side" will use the more complex version to "undermine Western civilization" then you're literally twisting the science to promote your political agenda.

I usually appreciate your tweets, but honestly I don't get what point you're trying to make with this 2+2=5 rant. Yes, you can make 2+2=banana if you redefine the symbols, but this is a trivial observation, and to argue it while trying to score a point reeks of sophistry.

It's like defending the flat earth ideology by saying "Ackchyually, if we assume a spherical metric, the earth is indeed flat".

The point about Western Civilization, in my interpretration, is that "Western" (really Eurasian) Civilization has created a system of intersubjective knowledge where the validity of statements can be assessed independently than the person making them and their allegiances.

This system rests on words and concepts having precise, well understood meanings that different people from different backgrounds can agree to.

This is what enabled e.g. Srinivasa Ramanujan, a poor self-taught Indian boy, to impress Cambridge academics and become one of the most renowed mathematicians of his generation: all mathematicians of the world fundamentally spoke the same language.

So the more the language of math and science becomes perverted into some kind of Orwellian Newspeak, where words and symbols have ambiguous or even contraddictionary meanings that change to fit the political wind, the less we are able to pursue science as an endeavour of mankind.

The point is the final hypothetical you're using to close your little rant is something that isn't happening the way you mean it and is obviously just paranoid Fox News bullshit
