We all believe there is a sun because there is, indeed, a sun. That’s an objective fact. Also, thank goodness for the “reasonable man” standard in law. Reasonable, ordinary perception legally speaking is regarded as objective. (|| and || is ||||| does not meet that standard.)

Oh, Jesus, you picked the thing that people spent hundreds of years fighting over and people still have really strong "common sense" beliefs on and can't prove, just like you can't with math. See: do the planets revolve around the sun or around the earth?

First, are you denying the objective fact of the sun? Second, is Copernicus’ whole earth around the sun thing just a cis white guy colonially imposing his oppressive way of knowing on the world? Is heliocentrism a legitimate alternative? Does || and || make |||||?

Oh no you got me. Yes, I'm saying the sun is 100% pretend. Wow such logics very rash anal.

Actually the person I’m responding to is someone who’s evidently struggling with basic sun facts:https://twitter.com/eristae/status/1289646827696881665?s=21 …

Räv @EristaeReplying to @Aya62335284 @BetaDecayPlus and 5 othersI'm saying that I don't think that you can prove either that the sun and planets revolve around the earth or that the planets revolve around the sun, but that hasn't stopped you from having *really strong* beliefs about it. Because it's not about what you can prove.2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

But the sun DOES go around all the planets just as "objectively" as they go around it. I think you should take the plank from your own eye, so to speak. https://twitter.com/izs/status/1289648685941489664?s=21 …https://twitter.com/izs/status/1289648685941489664 …

isaacsVerified account @izsReplying to @Eristae @Aya62335284 and 5 othersAnd even more relevant to this conv, with enough epicycles, both are equivalently "true". Just that one is way simpler. More generally, the earth and sun are in an orbital relationship with one another, neither is objectively the one the other "goes around".1 reply 0 retweets 6 likes -

We don't accept models because they somehow correspond to a magical platonic "true" reality. We accept them because they predict observations to a reasonable degree of accuracy, with an acceptable parsimony of complexity.

I have a prediction: the earth will continue revolving around the sun. Didn’t think I’d have 2 + 2 = 4 *and* earth revolves around the sun conversations in one day, but considering this is happening in the context of a woke agenda I’m not surprised.

Okay you actually understand that there is no privileged frame of reference when deciding whether "the sun goes around the earth" or "the earth goes around the sun" right Is Einstein "woke"? Is relativity "woke"?

The bizarre thing about arguing with someone like this is they actually argue stridently on the basis of their own ignorance Saying that their basic-ass understanding of science or math or history is more true than yours, because it's stupider

"Well that's the shared understanding of millions of people and you trying to disrupt that is bad for society" I guess we just shouldn't have schools at all then
