I was just thinking how 8 + 8 =1 is a plausible problem given the right labels, (in this case oz because 16 oz is 1 lb)

The argument there is that your statement isn't an equation because the sides aren't equal - they've got different units

Australia got rid of one and two cent coins some time ago. 2+2=5 happens here all the time when you're paying in cash. More than that, 2=0 is also often true, if you're paying cash.

Whether the statement "2+2=4" is true depends on what you mean by the operation "+", what set the symbols "2" and "4" come from, and the definition of the equivalence relation "=" . It's covered in any Intro to Modern Math class, which these objectivists have clearly never taken
