The issue is common understanding for meaningful communication among a general public. On your example, how is that hypothetical scale better than the sort you encounter in real life? Seems definitively less precise, no?

I've run into this as a science communicator, as well, when people ask about "breaking the laws of physics." We have to explain that it's not like traffic laws; these laws are attempts to DESCRIBE physics. If something seems to "break" the laws it means WE have gotten them wrong

It really isn't, or if you want to argue that the Platonic world of forms exists and a brain perceives it the way eyes perceive light you're getting really far into the philosophical weeds and taking that position isn't as easy as you seem to think
