It’s so weird for people to construe this as “but you’re saying parents can’t hug their children”. No. Even a toddler can express whether they want to be held or not. They will yell “tickle me!” and then “stop!” and you do it.

Yes, sometimes you have to physically restrain a child against their will for safety but the need for that decreases with their increased capacity, and ultimately isn’t any different than you how would treat an adult who is absent-mindlessly lurching toward the street
