Digital isn’t the same in a number of ways. And some chemical film production is still necessary for archival purposes. But the solution to the former is focusing on updating digital technology.

Like I can’t just say film no longer matters b/c it remains a critical component of film archival work BUT we are such a minuscule portion of consumption we’re barely a blip & commercial cinema can suck it up.

I grew up w/ Kodak. Heard that the company essentially killed itself with internal politics, as the chemical engineering side had more power than the upstart digital team and made the conscious decision to maximize short-term profits on film even as the endpoint was obvious.
