Back in the day when making film (literally, as the precursor to "filmmaking") was big business a LOT of the biggest stars in the field of industrial chemistry did their finest work there (My dad was a chemist/materials scientist so this is one of the things I know about)

The Kodak Labs and the Eastman Business Park were centers of American R&D and production back in the day and I wouldn't be surprised if this were also because they still have valuable physical facilities they're still sitting on

Kids These Days won't understand this but maximizing the quality and efficiency of the literally millions of tons of film they pumped out every year was a huge high stakes operation It was like making paper, only much more difficult and high tech

That's why this industry had to die, of course There is no justification for continuing the massive consumption of petroleum and incredible amounts of polluting chemical waste and used-up nonbiodegradable film in landfills Even if Spielberg thinks digital just "isn't the same"
