Rowling’s disinterest in lifting up other voices is a long-running critique. Imagine how much cooler Pottermore, with all those racist backstories of the other “ethnic” wizard schools, could have been if she’d Rick Riordan’d it and hired #ownvoices authors to tell those stories

I've never once heard someone complain that a male public figure doesn't spend enough time "lifting up other voices".

No seriously, I and many others have noticed a pattern in liberal activism where women's labor and time is seen as a public resource that must be given up to everyone's needs and feelings but her own. Yet men can do the bare minimum and be praised. This needs fixing.

Just as an example, Emma Watson and Jameela Jamil, neither of whom I think are perfect, catch heat on the Internet constantly, for exactly the reason you mentioned

The fact that they're known for activism means they get people constantly judging them and calling their work phony, demanding why they're amplifying this cause but not another one, prying into their personal lives to judge whether they're hypocrites, etc

I don't see TERFs defending them from this behavior I see TERFs DOING this I see TERFs being the MAIN people who do this Because as cis "handmaidens" who stand up for trans rights they are completely fair game

All the shitty tropes you're supposedly talking about "Hey Emma, why are you talking about this and not FGM in Somalia" "Hey Jameela, aren't you just doing this to promote your new show" "Hey you two, what do you know about sexual violence? Have you experienced it? Huh? Huh?"

The fact that "you're doing this just to promote your show" is the worst you can think of insofar as people being "mean" to those women is pretty fucking telling.

No, I was deliberately escalating toward the sexual violence part - which is still significantly less "mean" than the "meanest" stuff I've seen people say - but good effort
