Nah my opinion of her writing, her success and the political/commercial circumstances of that success had been souring for years I mean Alan Moore made Harry Potter the Antichrist in his comic in 2012 and I basically came around to thinking he had a point

Pfffft what? She seriously did that? That's like... 16 year old not wanting to admit they cribbed ideas for their fanfics from popular TV shows level of pathetic omg. Like... you heard of 'The Worst Witch' before JK, you aren't fooling anyone.

The amount of cribbing JKR did from "The Worst Witch" could literally fill volumes, and did.

Books I'm almost sure JKR read then pretended she did not - though maybe she should have taken more notes.pic.twitter.com/DHnAv1VAeH

This was something that really irked Dad many years ago. Namely her dismissal of fantasy and lack of acknowledgement that she was actually writing it. He also disliked the way the press acted like she’d invented the genre.

I'm sure I read something he wrote once about people on the internet accusing him of stealing the wizard school concept from JKR as it pertained to UU, which first appeared in...what, mid 80s?

People who've only read "Harry Potter VS Worst Witch" comparison articles have always minimised the blatant inspiration, but I had those books as a kid and aside from The Worst Witch's goofy "bad-means-good" jokes, Potter could be a sequel.

Tho a lot of authors do that: cite as inspiration (public domain) classics, and things that only tangentially relate to their work, while conspicuously NOT mentioning works that seem curiously similar. (Tho I also concede some coincidences can be coincidences)
