It's going to be impossible to be a Harry Potter fan and not actively be a TERF within a year Not so much because of the people "canceling" Harry Potter so much as the TERFs, who can never stop talking about TERF shit, loudly colonizing the fandom It's fun to watch

And while the actual literal author is physically alive, "Death of the Author", which is a statement about how to evaluate a work as a critic, has little relevance to the material consequences of engagement I.e. the actual person JK Rowling will get your money from buying stuff

Using "Death of the Author" in that incorrect form is a way to say that none of this matters, I'm going to like what I like and harumph! I know a lesbian who keeps going on about how she loves Chick-fil-A.

I never cared for them, so it's not as far a walk for me. HP relies far too much on "magic as applied phlebotinum" to advance the plot for my taste. Also, there's way too much casual, entirely unexamined racism.
