Yeah the whole dark thing was that as Black Spider-Man the symbiote was just trying to give him what he always wanted

Of course apparently since then they've gone real hog-wild with Symbiote Lore & now they are/were originally the redeemed remnants of a primordial God of pure malice & spite which might in turn be a fragment of the ultimate force of pure omnicidal evil & oh no I'm cross-eyed

(seriously, comics writers, I get that Mythos-style "the universe's most primal powers are of alien eldritch horror" is like nerd candy, but... it's so weird to do this with comics where they used to have an Eru Illuvatar figure.)

I mean it's not really new, primordial evil has always been a thing And the progenitor of Klyntar isn't the true ultimate god or anything, the whole point is he was defeated

I more just mean it's a strange segue to go from "the ultimate authority of the universe is the One Above All, the embodiment of good and love, who ensures heroism triumphs" to "the world began in darkness and primordial wickedness"

The One Above All is just the writer, Jack Kirby, he made the world have cosmic darkness and chaos and whatnot because it makes a better story

I'm aware. Then they added the One Below All as an equal and opposite who ultimately devours everything including the OAA.

That's the weird bit, the shift from "We have not!Eru who creates evil so that good may destroy it and triumph" to "not!Melkor is coeval with not!Eru as a power of despair and hate, and will ultimately destroy everything."

Enh, I hadn't heard about that That doesn't seem like it's something Marvel as a whole is on board with, it's something made up specifically for the Immortal Hulk series as an exploration of the deep psychological shit of what the Hulk represents

Oh yeah, but the series basically said the Hulk and all Gamma mutants are literally powered by ultimate Cosmic Evil from below the universe and will ultimately be hollowed out and used as a vessel for it to devour the next one and all life within, including the OAA

Okay but you know that's not actually the future that's going to happen

Of course not. It's just funny. I'm not like, morally offended or anything, it's just a case of "wow, you made a huge-ass tonal shift in your basic cosmology for the sake of a single story, huh?"

Well yeah that's how telling a story works Caring about the continuity first is for chumps
