I don't know if anybody's ready for this conversation but I think the same logic that applies here to lawns also applies to pets. Like, there are a lot more obvious actual benefits to pet ownership and the gatekeeping is driven socially rather than baked in to property but yeah.

I think this is a huge part of it and directly relates to why so many people respond with such scorn to any questioning of the value of a lawn. The entire cultural context is gatekeeping and shaming.
