I've somewhat lost track of how stupid the symbiotes have become since then - I think they're ALL hyper-intelligent now, and have a whole planet, and they're connected to the sword that the "God-Butcher" from the THOR books uses, which makes them older-than-ETERNALS old maybe?

I *really* didn't like the "VENOM" movie, but I do like that the people making it also seemed to dislike it enough that the MCU is now stuck with a Venom who's literal backstory is "I'm actually the shittiest symbiote, literal self-described loser, so I'm just gonna stick around"

Okay so is the Sony Spider-Villain universe actually officially integrated into the MCU then because that seems like a really bad idea

Like just on the level of having Venom and Spider-Man have no collection to each other whatsoever, it's a pretty awkward fit

I feel like the manner of Spidey's integration into the MCU was awkward enough on its own (if surprisingly well-executed) that this ship has sailed.

It seems like they're working from the Netflix/ABC arrangement *before* the broke up the studio to keep everyone from quitting the movies, i.e. "the lesser thing is going to keep bringing this up, the main thing maybe not."

Like... assuming they don't just NOT release "MORBIUS;" the already put the big connection thing for that *in the trailer,* so Sony is going all-in on "YES! THESE ARE TOTALLY MARVEL MOVIES AND YOU NEED TO WATCH THEM!"

But I imagine other than eventually wanting Tom Holland to be in a Black Suit so they can sell that specific toy, Marvel/Disney would rather wait and see if they're garbage before saying "Yes, absolutely, those are ours." But... unless they take that character/scene out...

Well I dunno As far as IP law goes this is a gray area Having the same actor play the same character in your movie as they did in a different movie is often not actually legally actionable but also doesn't actually require overt permission and cooperation from the other person

Like I obviously think Sony wants to hook up with the MCU and wants this to be the implied headcanon everyone takes home with them but that's worlds apart from actually being in the MCU

I mean they got JK Simmons back to play J Jonah Jameson in Far From Home, that doesn't mean the Raimi trilogy is somehow canon in the MCU

No, but it does mean it's a lot more possible that "J Jonah Jameson looks/sounds like J.K. Simmons is a multiversal constant" becomes a recurring joke we're more tired of than we'd expect to be in 10 years.

I mean anyone who wasn't old enough to watch the Spidey cartoon in the 90s already thinks that. I literally have no idea of a Jameson not clearly based on Simmons' portrayal
