Yo I do try to avoid the tacky self-praise nowadays but I am very certain that I am smarter and a better writer than JK Rowling And I try to associate with and follow people who are also smarter and better writers than JK Rowling It's a bare minimum bar, and not a difficult one

Which is why it was so damn common in Potter fandom for people to pick up on some bit of fan-invented lore as actually being canon -- because it made so much more sense -- and then be disappointed it wasn't actually
-
An example? There’s no fan-invented lore? Because people in the fandom up until recently has the respect not to think they’re better than the writer. If they’re such good writers then, why are they piggybacking off of JK’s incredible world building?

Do people actually think that Rowling is any good a world building? Like holy shit the world building in Harry Potter comes apart at the slightest bit of thought. Magic fucks with electronics? Okay, how the fuck does Diagon alley work? It's in the middle of fucking London.
-
If you’d care to research it, it’s explained - and the fact that there’s an explanation for it proves that her world building is up to scratch

I know this isn't the point but ah what a golden age of fan fiction! Several years to write increasingly elaborate storylines that no one could yet tell you WOULDN'T be canon. Prophecies as far as they eye could see. Truly, a magical time for fans honing their writing skills.
