JK Rowling is a racist classist bigoted shithead, and a transphobe, and she's one of the worst writers in the history of the world to ever break a million dollars from her writing, never mind a billion Her current level of success is a cosmic injustice and proof there is no God https://twitter.com/Gabbi_Tabby/status/1286594249249771521 …

How is she racist/classist? I’m so confused on that one. Also have you heard of defamation law? You’re breaking them. Screenshot!

I am, in fact, NOT breaking defamation law, under pretty clear precedents in US case law (under which general accusations of bigotry, incompetence, and unpopularity are all considered per se non-actionable) which means YOU are defaming ME and should prepare for a lawsuit

Civil lawsuits aren't transnational.
She'd have to sue Arthur in the US, and US defamation laws protect opinions. Arthur's opinion that she's a bigot etc. is non-actionable.3 replies 0 retweets 65 likes -

Doesn’t section 9 of the Defamation Act set out the conditions for the case being heard in England? I’m not saying it would meet the requirements of the act but it’s not true to say it’s impossible.

As a US citizen speaking to the general public, I am both physically in the US and my online communication, if it can be said to "exist" anywhere physically, also exists inside the US The case law on this is very strong

You could fight back against it, but only if you could make a strong case that I was somehow targeting my speech to people in the UK with the specific intention of affecting public opinion within the UK And let me say now that I deny all filthy Brits permission to read my tweets

The way that Twitter works as a platform, I am incapable of actually restricting access to my tweets from UK citizens or residents, but nonetheless I am clearly stating that any goddamn limey fucks reading my tweets are doing so against my will and without my consent

To be clear, the above is tongue-in-cheek ass-covering for choice-of-law in a theoretical libel suit
