I, for one, love hiring libel attorneys to shut down criticism of me shortly after I sign an open letter decrying censorship. https://twitter.com/jimwaterson/status/1286370245851189248 …

If I were to say that you were a crap reporter and the LA Times would be better off hiring a donkey, that would be criticism and covered by the letter. If I were to call you a racist, responsible for war crimes in the Congo, that would be libellous and not covered by the letter.

And there we go "Calling someone a racist" is libel in these people's eyes, they think the word "racist" is this horrific weapon to deploy that's far worse than just saying someone is a jerk or an idiot Deep white insecurity

Being wrongly accused of racism and/or bigotry is of course horrific, and so much worse than being called a jerk or an idiot that it's laughable to suggest otherwise. And I appreciate the irony of you ending your daft tweet with a racist insult. Kudos.

Though interestingly, he jumped on the word "racist" but not the war criminal bit of the sentence.

Yes because no one accused JK Rowling of that so that part just makes you come off as a histrionic fool

To make it visible to the world that you are a histrionic fool

JKR is these people's worst nightmare - an intelligent successful woman with an opinion that she can express clearly and eloquently, and who is scared of debate. Hence the lack of debate and the overabundance of, ironically, hate speech and name-calling.

You're right, she is, in fact, quite scared of debate, hence the hiding behind lawyers

Nope. She couldn't have been more fulsome in her clarification of her position. And when someone publishes something defamatory about you, you don't debate it because it's been done and is actionable.

Yeah talking at length about your opinions and then suing anyone who says your opinions are bad is nowhere near anyone's definition of "debate"
