I, for one, love hiring libel attorneys to shut down criticism of me shortly after I sign an open letter decrying censorship. https://twitter.com/jimwaterson/status/1286370245851189248 …

If I were to say that you were a crap reporter and the LA Times would be better off hiring a donkey, that would be criticism and covered by the letter. If I were to call you a racist, responsible for war crimes in the Congo, that would be libellous and not covered by the letter.

And there we go "Calling someone a racist" is libel in these people's eyes, they think the word "racist" is this horrific weapon to deploy that's far worse than just saying someone is a jerk or an idiot Deep white insecurity

Calling someone a racist can be actionable, calling someone an idiot or jerk is mere vulgar abuse and not actionable. I don't think the courts are interested in white fragility woo.

No, it isn't, it's an assessment of their character and a matter of opinion

I now concede to your point on the word racist being meaningless. "Accusations of ‘racism’ no longer are ‘obviously and naturally harmful.’ The word has been watered down by overuse, becoming common coin in political discourse.” Kimura v. Vandenberg.

It's not "meaningless" any more than calling someone selfish, cruel, ignorant or incompetent is meaningless It's just not legally actionable because it's a matter of opinion

How about the war criminal bit of my example though? Which was the worse accusation.

It's a histrionic flourish that has nothing to do with the situation at hand, but it does succeed in making you look like a dipshit
