And I do think that it's a big problem that actual actionable libel is so easy to get away with on the Internet - lying about actual specific things, saying someone committed a crime "JK Rowling is transphobic" obviously does not fit that category

As I recall from my intro to libel for reporters, libel (in the US) has to do with whether you make a factual(ish) claim that can be checked by calling the party involved.

“JK Rowling is a bad person” is not libelous. “JK Rowling must be kept from children; she is a danger to them” is more dicey, and is what drew the lawsuit
