Yeah, like, it's pretty telling that the one thing that's constantly associated with these people who want to Bring Back the Old instead of finding a new paradigm in which to live is torture, fanaticism, and death; any sacrifice can be justified by "a world saved/reborn"

On the other hand, as the situation is presented to us, accepting the status quo means accepting that the eventual extinction of humanity is inevitable (the Cordyceps keeps on spreading through the environment and there's nothing the survivors can do about it)

This is the whole thing with the flashback with Adam and Sidney in 2 It's an explicit rule in Jackson that Jackson's safety and prosperity comes from putting Jackson first and letting the outside world take care of itself

Eh, they explicitly trade with people and allow trade and newcomers. What I'd say is the essential difference is Jackson is approaching this for the long haul and the Fireflies want just like...one grand redemptive reclamation within their lifetimes.

Which comes back to the whole "this is a *religion* to the Fireflies," it's not like... building a future, building something sustainable. It's "we are working to reclaim the old world that is our due, within our lifetime, and for this greater good any sacrifice is acceptable."

The Vaccine, after all, is treated as like flipping a switch! "We have this Vaccine and now all is well, History has Changed." Which... doesn't make any sense. How are they going to distribute it? How are they manufacturing it in bulk? It's a cultish Hail Mary play.

Well, that's the thing though, even if it isn't a miraculous turning point it's a starting point I mean one reason they haven't cleared out all those Bloater nests by brute force is that that's incredibly dangerous, and a vaccine would make it only somewhat dangerous

We may be the victim of gameplay and story segregation here Like to make the game playable neither Joel nor Abby is as vulnerable to an instant death sentence from a bite or a scratch as they should be It's why the Tess reveal in 1 is such a shock

We may be. But *mooks* also deal with infected with some frequency. I dunno, I feel like you get more by embracing the infection with this theme than rejecting it.

Many people have talked about how the enemy AI in both games is a lot more effective against the player than against itself, and NPC vs NPC combat is hilariously ineffective, especially human vs Infected One Clicker can totally wipe out a whole squad of mooks effortlessly

I feel like, while this is probably just the result of where they spent their effort on programming, it also makes a lot of in-universe sense
