did they... think... Joel and the Fireflies... were cool... with each other... at the end of the first game https://twitter.com/BootlegGirl/status/1286015885883387905/photo/1pic.twitter.com/6nki71is9R pic.twitter.com/HV7kPV33C2

This is wild, because I was following TLOU fandom in 2013, and while tons of people got Firefly tattoos and such, "it's a shame that the only unique TLOU symbol is for a group that are basically villains" was a prominently noted thing. Plus, Joel wasn't even killed by Fireflies!

She's not a Firefly anymore, she's a Wolf, and the whole point is that Wolves are driven by selfish pack behavior and the desire to wipe out enemies and ensure their own survival rather than hope for all humanity Becoming a Firefly again is a sign of her character development

I mean, on the other hand, when Ellie evasively summarizes the whole thing for Jesse, she still has to correct herself - "Fireflies, now former Fireflies" and it's very clear that them having been Fireflies is why they killed Joel

I'm just saying if you really believe in what the Firefly symbol stands for, the symbol itself remains untainted, because Abby's crew explicitly abandoned it before they went on their mission of nihilistic vengeance

I mean, if it's tainted by anything it should be tainted by the ending of 1, where their mission becomes murdering a teenage girl Which is why this whole thing is ironic

He doesn't mean "mission" as in "ultimate end goal" though, he means the immediate actions pursued to achieve that goal.
