If you've ever tried playing a SNES ROMhack that uses MSU-1 audio, it's... uncanny It's basically a gadget that turns the Super Famicom into whatever the Sega Mega CD equivalent of that would be in an alternate dimension Super Mario World and it's just randomly orchestral music

PC gamers from the 90s are used to this, with MIDI soundtracks that sound totally different depending on the sound card you have installed Like everyone remembers the Doom soundtrack slightly differently

The best was playing a game on a cheap computer that didn't have a sound card so everything was replaced by the PC speaker bleeps and bloops

I did some digging just now and apparently the Doom soundtrack was tested on a Roland sound card, which is the "official" instrument set for the intended sound and is the version they used to make the original CD recording
