Future Me might regret any number of decisions I make right now but he doesn't get a vote because he's not real I might get shot in the back while walking down the street tomorrow and Future Me who wishes I'd saved my money instead of blowing it on booze just won't exist ever

This is why I've never been comfortable with having a retirement account. I have one, because, well, I don't know why, except that the returns are greater than anything else that isn't super risky. But they use my money, and I can't have it back without paying.

Used to be, savings accounts had good interest rates, and you could withdraw your money any time. My mom and dad both worked their whole lives planning for an amazing retirement and then my dad got MS and my mom got amyloidosis and they were both dead at 70.
