In any case as a narrative point, leaving aside actual real world morality, a character killing someone means we have seen the worst thing that happens to that character. We don't have to imagine the torments they experience later.

People make fun of takes saying Superman should be using his superstrength to turn a turbine to provide cheap electricity for the city but honestly how is him stopping some random pickpocket any more of an appropriate use of his talents Who does that actually help, why bother

A ton of old school superhero shit is completely and totally the Rudy Giuliani "broken window" theory -- that if you just round up all the people doing minor bad shit, turnstile jumpers and graffiti artists and public urinators, and throw them in prison, the city is fixed

Yeaahhhh.... I blame supers universes being unwilling to address the logical implications of their settings. Although bluntly even small scale crime is a constant source of misery and pain.

it's occasionally hinted that the zeroth power of every superhero is to be touched by fate--to always just happen to be in just the right place to make a difference

"Patrolling" every night and just finding violent crimes by accident is absurdly unrealistic This is actually the cops' job, and they have a whole workforce of people out doing it, and they still have to make shit up most of the time to fill their quota

The limitations of genre expectation & devotion to status quo handcuffs many characters. On paper, conceptually, Wonder Woman is *supposed* to be someone who strives to change the status quo & improve the world & would rather resolve problems without violence.

But she's rarely actually depicted doing that beyond lip service. On the rare occasion writers try to show it, fans dismiss it as preachy & boring. And I suspect some creators would rather have her smashing things with a sword because comic books.
