Something that actually interests me is that Bioware has never really worked with the Celebrity Voice Actor Squad

Wait, Troy Baker doesn't count now? Is it because it was before he became mainstream with TLOU or am I missing something?

Yeah you did kind of ignore Troy Baker playing Kai Leng

Oh God he played Kai Leng? So, uh, that raises another question. People have been (I thought pretty justifiably) all over Naughty Dog for casting Laura Bailey as a Black woman twice. But are there actually, like, any minorities IN the VA union?

I mean apparently they have at least one trans man. But it does seem like a business model that's going to encourage Scarlett Johannsonning it up

For the record, the union for voice actors and on-camera actors is the same union, SAG-AFTRA

It used to be that VAs were typically in AFTRA, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and had to join SAG additionally if they were cast in a movie (which was a formality thanks to the two unions being allied)

But that bit of bureaucracy was fully eliminated when SAG and AFTRA merged in 2012

In the case of Ian Alexander this is his first VA role that I'm aware of - they almost certainly cast him because of his on-camera role as Buck on The OA with the intention of having the character be demographically and visually similar to him

Yes, not only did they only know of Alexander due to The OA, but they actually had to go to extra effort to contact him, because he didn't have any representation at the time. So ND are clearly willing to cast a wide net. They weren't even going to cast Bailey as Abby originally

Yeah for better or for worse Druckmann clearly at this point sees himself as an auteur and is willing to go the extra mile for his vision Which has the downside that when the studio does make what people react to as a bad call, you can't really use the "just business" excuse

He does seem to be veering dangerously close to “David Cage” territory.
