It's still absurd that, however bad the training at Cobra Kai may be, Daniel competes at the black belt level and becomes the champion after starting training with Miyagi *three months ago*

Nah if you watch the movie they specifically say it's only attacking below the waist that's banned No one banned kicking someone in the face possibly because they didn't anticipate it was possible

In the original movie Daniel has a hurried conversation with Ali just before the tournament where she tells him the rules are anything is allowed above the waist (That's what she said!)
