Ellie started off with the claim that she did not understand why Papers Please, a game released in a much less troubled year, was accepted while TLOU2 got a decidedly mixed reception, and concluded the answer MUST be intolerance. (cont)

Like KotOR 1 - not 2, KotOR 1, the wholesome one - has the Dark Side path force you to mind control Zaalbar into executing his best friend Mission while she tearfully begs him to stop and he vainly struggles against your command

That, plus really Renegade and Closed Fist characters are honestly just assholes anyway if you play them that way all the way. They're just *banal* assholes (except Closed Fist which really is basically just a Dark Side playthrough despite all the fuss).

Like "Paragon" vs. "Renegade" isn't really that much more nuanced that "good" vs. "evil" it's just that Renegade playthroughs don't let you be *as* evil as being evil in Baldur's Gate or DS in KotOR.

my hot take is that the Renegade notion undergoes serious transformation from 1 to 2. in ME1 the renegade options really are sorta bad and mean-spirited. in ME2 they've sanded off the rough edges, and now it's just shepard not having any patience for bullshit.

There's a certain basic problem in that ultimately classic Evil is just kind of petty and uninteresting, more than it being "unrealistic." Trump is pretty much classic hardcore Evil as fuck. He's also, you know, monstrously boring and intolerable to have in your world.
