They don't "believe" it in a factual sense, they believe it emotionally.

Ironically, the weak free speech protections in the UK mean that this sort of thing doesn't require that much money to pull off. Yes, the right thing about *the letter* was to ignore it. Shaming her transphobia was the right move.

Imagine who said what to force this apology. Then JKR went after him & the Labour party directly in her response thread. Also see replies – the usual Elder TERFs + their army of sockpuppet accounts. The war on trans ppl is being played out behind the scenes and in full view.

actual cancel culture, exhibit A (tbf they brought back some of the info but Mermaids are still gone from the list) https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/07/10/bbc-gender-identity-support-mermaids-lgbt-transgender-non-binary/ …pic.twitter.com/OG24HPlDhY

I think "ignoring her" is the wrong thing to do, but there's also more than one way to respond to an argument. JKR's recent poor choice in alignment does not necessarily invalidates good she's done in the past, nor does it invalidate the difficulties she lived through before.

(In some ways, the fact that this is coming from someone with a mostly good track record makes the rhetoric more dangerous, but my point is that I believe she can be convinced away from these views, and should be.)
