To be clear, that infamous video essay about "owing Stephenie Meyer an apology" was, in fact, balls, and the idea that she was unjustly despised on even selective premises is balls

Could not agree with this more. She sucks and deserves every ounce of criticism she gets on every front.

This bitch said she couldn’t get through reading Dracula because it was too boring, had never seen a vampire movie because they’re rated R and she’s a fundie, then said she tried to watch IWAV on TV but had to turn it off because of the “gay content” not agreeing with her morals.

She deserves mockery and scorn on every level, from creating a dopey ass “heroine” who flings herself off cliffs in the hopes her boyfriend will pay attention to her as a role model for young girls to teaching them that all boys can’t be expected to control their urges.

Every single thing about her and her work is reactionary, not even vaguely coded conservative trash informed by her Mormon beliefs (don’t even get me started on the abstinence propaganda angle) and there’s no “feminist” reading of her work that’s not a whole joke.

Remember when, to resolve the love triangle, Bella has a baby and the werewolf boy falls in love with the baby and then the baby does a whole bunch of time all at once and becomes Hot

The baby has psychic powers that allow it to project its own emotional state onto others and honestly the most sensible Watsonian explanation for the ending is that they're all being mind controlled by an amoral telepath

I'm pretty certain Meyer, a new mom herself, made up Renesmee's powers as this cutesy little joke ("When the baby's unhappy, everyone's unhappy!") but if you take it at all seriously it's incredibly disturbing
