Are you saying that a child might like one of his caretakers better than the other, and that the sheer act of their liking this person de facto gives them complete control over the child and irreversibly shuts out every other adult from the decision process

Why do you so completely discount the power of emotional attachment? How many stories of authority figures sexually abusing kids who then keep quiet to protect their abuser do you need?

So you're concerned about child sexual abuse by people they attach strongly to, and your solution is to let that attachment be consolidated in a single entity chosen by an accident of birth?

And yours is to let that power be consolidated in whatever individual they grow attached to at the orphanage they were assigned?

My solution is that it won't be consolidated. Children can securely attach to more than one person. More than one group of people, even.

No, they can't, because there's no regulation of what's currently their only option for early attachment. This keeps being explained to you. I have to assume at this point that you simply don't want to understand.

I'm just not convinced. I understand your arguments perfectly but they're all so dystopian and asinine.

And it's loving and joyous for many others. You would destroy that love and joy (but of course you don't care since your ethics are all about minimizing harm rather than maximizing fulfillment).
