This bias that when adults form bureaucracies and institutions their actions become depraved and corrupt but when they act as individuals in relationships you can trust their inherently decent nature is very common among Republicans It's the complete opposite of my experience

That's really not the perspective. It's that institutions areliable to be corrupt as any individual seeing as they are but collectives of individuals, and since we can only really know ourselves we prefer that we retain as much power and responsibility as individuals as possible

I am totally on board with the idea that we should respect the fact that you can never really ask someone to trust another person as much as themselves THAT'S WHY WE SHOULD LIMIT THE POWER OF PARENTS Because THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE TELLING CHILDREN TO DO

You're telling them to do just that but with state authorities in your ideal.

I never advocated making some single state authority all-powerful I advocated a balance of powers pitting adult authorities against each other, as a compromise solution maximizing the power children have over themselves

How is that any different from a a child having multiple authority figures aside from their parents as they do now if they attend school/church/sports etc.?

Because under the status quo parents' veto power is ultimate and while there exists a bureaucratic institution for abrogating their power in cases of abuse, it's a very weak institution that has to fight tooth and nail

*In theory* CPS looks pretty good, it does everything I would ask of such an institution *on paper* In practice, not so much It's very easy to keep CPS off your back if you're not an idiot about it

In a former job of mine, which involved working alongside CPS, my experience has taught me CPS is very limited by the state in terms of what they can actually do. I worked with ages 5-17, all from homes of neglect/abuse, displaced -
