The time has come for a professional analysis of the library featured in The Last Of Us Part 2. I'm, uh, really into set design in video games. In this game, fungal zombies closed all libraries in 2013. It's 25 years later at this point. But, hey, no Trump or COVID-19.

If you have played the game, this would be the building with the pot and the same-sex sex. (Oh right!) It's located just outside of Jackson, Wyoming proper. I went on Google Maps and found that Teton County Library is the right spot. Real life:pic.twitter.com/0EzXfkXUtx

In the game, you can see the same blocky "LIBRARY" through the window with three small windows. Also notice the rough wooden pillars like de-limbed trees inside. Blink and you'll miss it on the way in, but the entrance awning is there too.pic.twitter.com/iHgX89pirK

Here are those natural wooden pillars. It's not an exact match in layout, but it does look like the set design team was working from photos of this library. Unfortunately, it becomes clear that they have no idea how libraries worked in the 2010s.pic.twitter.com/4v12ZHUUwe

First up, we librarians have a pet peeve about the stereotype that libraries are all about shushing people. The game library is covered in shushing signs.pic.twitter.com/kzOQeoftZo

This stereotype is going to take decades to die because it's such ripe fodder for hacky jokes about violent gun battles taking place next to a "QUIET" sign Or the Arrested Development gag with the chase scene where they all start tiptoeing

It's so dreadful, as in: I don't seek out library themed media because I dread being burned yet again by this trope. I routinely tell families that it's okay to talk in the children's section. Turns out, some of them KNOW this and are lying to get their kids to shut up.

Some of the most fun conversations I ever eavesdropped on were among student librarians at my college library hanging out at the circulation desk while I was doing homework
