"If we can select for traits that benefit the population as a whole" is such a braindead thing to say. Because we can't, and anyway "benefit" is a really fuzzy term that is usually interpreted in racist, ableist ways. It's a fantasy version of eugenics that has never existed.

That the pretty standard treadmill of deplorable ideology. 1. Deny and claim it's insulting to even accuse someone on such evil. 2. Cry persecution on probing. 3. Claim it's actually a virtuous position when denial gets impossible.
