I think what rewatching Unforgiven, which really does have the same ethics as TLOU2 reminded me of, is that letting Abby get away with what she did was as necessary for Ellie as for Abby. "Deserve's got nothing to do with it."

Yeah and this is reinforced by the fact that the actual game, except trophies, does not have a scene where she says "every last one of them," which would have put the title in a different context
