That the Toast turns out not to have been a women's magazine by women, which i felt like it was very loud about (because a lot of other online women's magazines had dudes funding them, running them, or both.)

As i say, it's definitely irrational. It's not Mr. Lavery's fault. But it still irritates me and i can't read the Toast archives at all anymore.

huh. now that I think about it that's probably not totally unrelated to my own weird feels about him/his career

He did an extended interview about this when he first came out and said he felt kind of like this too and it was an intimidating thing but he was resolute "I feel like the lesbian community and I are square I've done my time, I've paid my bills"

"Anything I owe the lesbian community as a group, anything someone might need or demand from me as a lesbian, I've done my best to give them, over and above what I think I owe Whatever benefits you think I accrued from being seen as a lesbian have been paid back in full"

I mean, i agree, he doesn't owe me anything! And by all means, he should be true to himself! But it still pisses me off that the Toast made such a big deal of being completely owned/run by women when, well, it wasn't. And that's fine, i'm allowed to feel that way too, you know?

Well, at the time they were pretty sure they were all women, so it was a honest mistake.

That's not my understanding of at least the latter part of the Toast's run.

Maybe? I'd followed daniel for a while at around the end of the line and I dimly remember him starting to bind, then masc it up after he & nicole pulled the plug. But god knows my memory is no longer worth shit after the last almost 4 years, so I'm probably wrong.

The Toast closed in 2016, Danny wrote the famous "product review" of his first binder in 2017, he came out during the launch of his book The Merry Spinster in 2018

Right. I'm well aware that he didn't come out until after the Toast closed down. That's not incompatible with the idea that he didn't necessarily still believe himself to be a woman at the time it closed down. And i think there's plenty of broad hints of that in his writing since

And it doesn't matter, because it's not my job or my place to litigate his choices. I feel vaguely betrayed and lied to anytime i see someone reminiscing fondly about the Toast, that's all.
