As a Swedish kid, I tried to figure out what that English phrase meant. I still don't feel sure.

It doesn't really mean anything. "Jam" in this case is in the slang for "dance or party or large gathering", so Space Jam would be "a large gathering in space" which doesn't really apply in any real way to the movie beyond working for the theme song

My husband tells me that jam was also used for "slam dunk" in basketball, so that's probably the tie-in (even as an American I've never heard it used that way, but I don't watch sports so)

Sure, but it's a relatively minor point in how things play out (that is, the bad guys could've been from ACME and the movie would still play out the same)
