I think you waaaaaay way overemphasize the importance of the LGBT aspect, bluntly. Most people aren't criticizing it because of the ridiculous "queer people are healers," they're doing so because it feels like the game is deliberately submerging them in cruelty.

There's maybe two hours of the game where there aren't obvious lesbians being lesbian or trans characters being trans, in the whole thing. How can I be overemphasizing it?

Even when I play a Bioware game trying to be as gay as possible I can't pull that off

Because for most of the audience the queer characters' identity is not nearly as tangible as the fact that they're killers, killing people in vicious and self-destructive ways, while being drenched (to a frankly verisimilitude-breaking degree) in the humanity of their victims.

I think it's safe to say your particular perspective with "it's revolutionary that I get to play a murderous lesbian, this is great and cathartic!" is not shared by many others, so it's a battle that you've elevated to symbolic import we don't even think we're in?

It's revolutionary that I get to play a lesbian who gets a plotline that goes unremarked when it's given to a cishet dude and only moderately criticized when given to a cishet woman (Lara Croft in nuTR) and THEN ALSO protect a trans kid, yes.

Again, I think queer people who find it in themselves to sabotage this game (as opposed to not play if it's not their thing) are at best unaware of how much of a chance they're blowing and at worst actively motivated by spite

how exactly are they "sabotaging" the game? by not liking it and saying they don't like it? surely if the game is good it will succeed despite that, I mean bak in 2011 the game reviewer lefties of the world shamed the fuck out of Call of Duty & Battlefield and they're still huge

The word "sabotaging" also sort of implies that they are *morally or professionally obligated* to make sure it's a success even if it's something that doesn't speak to them?

If queer representation matters to someone then it would be smart for them to remain silent if they find some horrible moral objection to the most LGBT inclusive video game OR MOVIE ever made, yes

It's a different set of stakes but I remember being actively warned not to criticize Crazy Rich Asians because it was "so important foot representation" and you can't say that kind of thing without immediately creating resistance

I mean, that's not my lane. My understanding is that it succeeded and that there were other major films with major Asian characters, possibly greenlit as a result, though? Some of them lacking the issues people have with CRA? Again, not my lane.
