And you know, I want to say something else Everybody I knew from MY generation who was particularly stannish and obsessive about pop music in their teens? They were the most vile, snotty goddamn people. Gamers BECAME worse than them, but I don't know that they were at that age

My contempt here isn't generational hypocrisy because honestly I cannot even begin to put into words how loathsome I found all the fucking My Chemical Romance-obsessed kids back in my day. They were just unspeakably awful to be around. Some of them still are. Sorry not sorry.

Maybe this is my aneurotypicality coming into play but pop songs are like four minutes long, max They're very short! if your entire personality is music and you neither make your own nor engage with what you like academically then maybe there's just not much depth to you

90% of the time I range from either neutral positive to neutral negative on music. That sure is a song! That's definitely music! So what's your favorite genre? Uhhhh well. Anime OPs and musical theatre, I guess? Somehow this never went over well

There's an ongoing war between people who think that musical theatre is the highest expression of both theatre and music and fans of both music and theatre who think it's the lowest

hmm you never really see people going bananas for a play the way they do for things like Hadestown plays always seem to have an "indie game" vibe to them

Yeah the fact that musicals are suddenly incredibly popular again only sharpens this divide

There's not much for a play fandom to really do though, right? Quote lines at each other? The closest thing may actually be stand up comedy fans.

Broadway in general is very inaccessible, but at least for the musicals you can play the cast recording Do people even film bootlegs of non musical plays? Someone must have I just personally haven't witnessed it
