And you know, I want to say something else Everybody I knew from MY generation who was particularly stannish and obsessive about pop music in their teens? They were the most vile, snotty goddamn people. Gamers BECAME worse than them, but I don't know that they were at that age

My contempt here isn't generational hypocrisy because honestly I cannot even begin to put into words how loathsome I found all the fucking My Chemical Romance-obsessed kids back in my day. They were just unspeakably awful to be around. Some of them still are. Sorry not sorry.

Maybe this is my aneurotypicality coming into play but pop songs are like four minutes long, max They're very short! if your entire personality is music and you neither make your own nor engage with what you like academically then maybe there's just not much depth to you

People who really like "sincere" acting and storytelling who think setting it to music makes it corny and fake and people who really like music as a raw abstract expression of talent who think using it to tell stories cheapens it
