Immigrant families completely bought into the bullshit American Dream narrative that once you've landed the ideal career and you're set for money, every other thing about your life will just fall into place This is obviously bullshit but it's very beneficial to bosseshttps://twitter.com/SimuLiu/status/1277901112884908032 …

An open letter to my Chinese parents Dear Mom and Dad How did "girls are a distraction, focus on your studies" lead straight into "when will I get grandkids" with nothing in between? Did you expect me to learn about relationships... in my algebra textbook? Sincerely, Your son

My parents did so much mocking of spoiled white kids who go backpacking to find themselves etc And it's easy to dunk on them sure but it's not like the reason they're unhappy despite being rich is just that they don't know what it's like being poor or they have weak character

EVERYONE is still unhappy after they get rich That's just what happens, being rich doesn't make you happy at all ESPECIALLY if the way you got rich still requires you to have to work

I'm too lazy to go looking for it, but I recall a study that suggested that people do become happier with more money up to a point, and then the money either makes no difference or happiness declines. At the time I think it was around $75k...maybe 15 years ago?

I saw this research, and I think it was last updated in 2012 or so. 75k to 150k is the ra fe where the returns begin to diminish, and after that it just plateaus.
